ENGLISH GRAMMAR 1º ESO (May, 20th)
COMPARATIVE
COMPARATIVE TO THE SAME DEGREE
-We use the COMPARATIVE TO THE SAME DEGREE to compare two or more things that
are the same, for example :
Imagine Tim is 1,60 metres and Susan is also 1,60 metres. You would say ‘Susan is as tall as Tim’ or ‘Tim is as tall as Susan’.
-As you can see, you do not add anything to the adjective,
you simply have to write AS before
and AS after the adjective, no
matter the number of syllables it has.
COMPARATIVE TO A LOWER DEGREE
-We use the COMPARATIVE TO A LOWER DEGREE to compare two or more things when
one is less than the other, for example :
Imagine Luc is 1,60 metres and Mary is
1,50 metres. You would say ‘Mary is less tall than Luc’
-As you can see, you do not add anything to the adjective,
you simply have to write LESS before
and THAN after the adjective, no
matter the number of syllables it has.
